Paul D Coates is a third generation metals industry entrepreneur with a long distinguished family history beginning in 1932 when his grandfather and father who founded the Volco Brass and Copper Company. Paul began his
career in metals manufacturing in 1968 under the tutelage of his father's wing, the late Norman Coates, CEO of Volco. Paul became Board Chairman, President, and CEO of Volco in 1976, and led the firm through a multi-million dollar complete
restructuring for its 625 employees in Kenilworth, New Jersey. Volco was the largest private, fully integrated brass mill in the US, with monthly shipments in excess of 7 million pounds. Volco was awarded the prestigious “E”
Award for Excellence in achieving strenuous production quotas of munitions by the Department of Defense. Paul was the youngest CEO ever at age 28, to lead a major non-ferrous metals producer.
Paul Coates is the Founder, Chairman, President and Chief Executive Officer of the Wheeler Industrial Corporation, which operates three divisions, with manufacturing and sales locations in New Jersey and New York. Since 1990, he has been
involved in the acquisition of distressed metal working companies, and the turn around and restructuring of them for profitable operations. Paul has successfully negotiated with Major Banks, New York Stock Exchange Real Estate Companies,
the Bureau of Hazardous Waste Compliance & Enforcement, as well the IRS.
His businesses involve niche operations, primarily in copper and copper alloys, and product offerings for such diverse industries as: Defense, Aerospace, Telecommunications, Consumer Electronics, Automotive, Electrical Component, Wiring
Device, Musical Instruments, Music String and the Apparel Fastener Industries. Most recently Paul has purchased the assets of a precious metals plating company from a major Bank in Pennsylvania that had been given up for dead. Paul restructured
the company by cutting overhead, modernizing equipment, increasing market share and empowering the employees into the quality process. Today this company has turned the corner and is operating with solid black numbers on the bottom line
and has been certified into ISO World Quality Standards.
His customers include major US and Foreign Companies, such as: Airborne Inc, Boeing Aerospace, Brookhaven National Labs, Chrysler Corporation, Delphi, Federal Signal, Ford Motor, General Electric, General Motors, Tyco, Motorola, IBM,
Northrop Aviation, Siemens and "Best In Class" specialty manufacturers such as CF Martin, Gibson and Fender Guitar Companies.
The United Wire Technologies LLC. Division, Cleveland, NY, is the leading US manufacturer of Brass, Bronze and Nickel wires used in the production of musical instrument strings.
RF Wire Technologies is one of the largest US producers of Beryllium Copper Conductors, plated with silver and gold.
Wheeler products are marketed nationally and internationally via factory direct sales and a national network of sales representatives.
From 1977-1985, Paul was a member of the Board Of Directors of UN Alloy Steel Corporation, traded on the American Stock Exchange.
Paul’s additional accomplishments include the founding of Corsair Industries a specialty metal trading company, Quantec Industries a metals distribution company.
Paul’s main residence for the last 30 years is in Harding Township, New Jersey, where he resides with his wife Marnie and son David. He is a member of the Metropolitan Club NYC as well Club Doubles NYC, the Naval War College Newport
RI and the Ritz Club of London England.
